quincyNot sure what the heck is going on here.....Took a ride with Sharon the other day, again I smelled fuel when I pulled into the garage. I lifted the carpet in the trunk and opened up the hatch for access to the fuel tank. Fuel was leaking again. And again the one fuel line (closest to the passenger compartment) was lifted off its fitting. When I lifted it further fuel started to gush out. Not a good scenario. So, I cable tied each fuel line female coupling to the tank cap male nipple. Two cable ties per fuel line. Then I used one cable tie around both lines. Then I took a folded in half sponge and placed it on top of the fuel lines to create a interference fit between the inside of access panel and the top of the fuel lines hoping to keep them pushed downward.

Anyone familiar with this fuel line hook up? Why would I be having this issue all of a sudden? Thanks in advance for comments and clues. Lou
robinWhat hoses is coming loose?

TomcalFirst, check that female connector is not broken at place were male tabs go. (little windows)

Carefully bend male tabs (in last picture) outward slightly so female with click in place when properly seated.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to replace fuel pump housing. Contact Tom Mills, he may have a housing.

Or, if your repairs holds, let it be.

robinWOW blew my presentation out of the water Tomcal!
Fantastic visual display.
quincyTomcal,

Thanks guys.

The hose coming off is shown in the second photo as detached. The line with the silver cap on the post or nipple...

I have not driven the Prowler since my shade tree repair attempt. When I take her out again I'll let you know how the cable ties worked. If it does work I'll take and post a photo for others in the same boat.

quincyWent out for a long ride today (June 30th) and tossed the Kat around the curves a bit hard. Got home.....No Fuel Smell.. Good news!! I believe the issue is resolved!
phil2237You are playing with a potential fire hazard using cable ties. It is best to follow Toms advise and bend the metal clips to prevent the hose from coming off. Leaking fuel could hit the exhaust and you will have a heck of a fire. Best to fix it the right way.

Thanks for the safety tip.....I realize this was a serious condition! I still don't know why it all of a sudden just occured.

phil2237Just wear & tear on a car and vibrations will cause this. Just bend the tabs to make it lock down properly and your troubles will be over.
TLRandallThis may be my issue, the previous owner tried to seal it with jb weld or something similar. May have to replace the housing top and both female connectors. I’ll post a picture once I can work on it some.
TLRandall

Found my fuel leak on #4 Silver - look at what they did to this!!!

Whatever that is will not come off, feels almost like JB Weld. Leak is coming from under the JB Weld in between the two nipples.

Looks like I will need a new top, can I get those separate from the assembly, and are they Prowler specific?

Any input would be appreciated. I need to get this done before anything else, as it is really pushing out a lot of fuel when the key is on. On a positive note, she starts right up and runs well.

Tom MillsIf you need the part with the line nipples on it, the part that is in the picture it was never sold separately, only available with the complete pump assembly. And the only hope you would have to get one now is if someone here would have an old used pump assembly that they replaced years ago. I would like to find a couple myself. Good luck hunting.
You might remove the pump and clean the gook off of the lid and see what you have under there. You may be able to fix it if it is a crack in the plastic. We have some amazing glue on the market now.

TLRandallThanks Tom, was hoping that the canister top would interchange with another Chrysler vehicle from that time frame. Looks very similar to a couple, but looks like it might be a hard find.
Tom MillsThe similar ones are the wrong angle. Won't work. Clean up your lid and see what you have, might be repairable.
robingive these guys a call! just maybe

Tom MillsI will do some research on that later today but I would be totally surprised if it will fit a Prowler
quincyHi Mr. Randall,

It is recommended you start a fresh thread on your particular issue. My particular issue is resolved and closed as far as I am concerned.

It seems your particular issue involved a failed repair using JB Weld......I don't believe that will work long term.

Regards,
quincy

TLRandallLooks like I hijacked quincy's thread, please move to the new thread.
Thanks,
robinLesson learned from both post....
Don't fool around with the fuel lines. You're risking a fire . This is not the place to use home made fixes you will get burned.
Quincy I hope you resolve your problem.
TLRandall we will see you in your new thread. .take care
